The Drop

The Drop follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters – “money drops” – in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv, Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood’s past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living – no matter the cost.

The Drop is a fantastically played and produced movie. Matt Hardy is sublime as the character Bob, and I can’t think of anyone who could have played it better. Throughout the movie the perception of Bob is that he is simply a bartender and generally just a reserved and private person, but it becomes clear as the movie goes on that he is far from that. I particularly loved the ending, with the full reveal of what sort of person Bob is capable of being, but with his heart and morals being in the right place.
